This ocean sanctuaries scientific study maps out how to protect 30% of the world’s oceans by 2030, a target that scientists say is crucial in order to safeguard wildlife and to help mitigate the impacts of climate change. 30×30: A Blueprint For Ocean Protection is the result of a year-long collaboration between leading academics at the University of York, University of Oxford and Greenpeace.

Thousands of people across the UK are calling on their MPs to help protect our oceans by urging the Prime Minister to send a senior minister to the Global Ocean Treaty negotiations in March. Governments are starting work on a Global Ocean Treaty. If they get it right, it’ll open the door to a vast network of ocean sanctuaries, which could protect over a third of the world's seas. Globally, less than 2 percent of the ocean is under protection. We’re campaigning to establish ocean sanctuaries in 30 percent of the world’s oceans by 2030.
